Fernando M. Romero
Painter / Visual Artist
Fernando graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Granada. Since 2016, he has lived and worked in London, where he completed a Master's in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2019.
His work combines various media, including painting, texts, assemblage, sound, and video. He establishes connections and parallels between the visual arts and other languages, such as music, movement, literature, and translation, in his pieces. In this exploration of codes and languages, his work draws from diverse sources, such as musical scores, various painting transfer techniques, or underground cultures like skateboarding, fanzines, or DIY culture.
In his most recent works, there is a growing interest in using modular and mobile displays that can be reconfigured into different states. We also find a use of images from very diverse sources, many linked to slapstick, cartoons, or viral online phenomena, which become part of the overall assemblage through successive instances and repetitions.

This piece continues Romero’s exploration of his play between codes and languages, combining imagery related to internet memes, viral phenomena, comics and slapstick. Romero sets a play where his pieces are always open to changes and possible displays by transferring and rearranging these fragments and images onto different surfaces, inspired by old tile puzzles and the internet.
