Poppy Lennox’s multi-layered paintings and sculptures look to the structures within the universe and nature’s intricate systems and patterns to make visible the interconnectivity of life. Working in a variety of mediums such as wood, plaster, paint, earth, metal powders, wax, raw silk and thread, she explores the human desire to seek pattern as a way of understanding the vastness and complexities of existence, and how we, being part of this system, perceive and place ourselves within its complex web.
Energy Lines, her most recent body of work, reveal pattern that is reminiscent of both mycelial and cosmic networks. Tethered forms of thread go beyond the woven mark to connect the microcosm and macrocosm and reflect on the energetic and vibrational forces that surround every aspect of existence.
Poppy’s practice is both an artistic inquiry and a personal act of grounding. As the parent of a child with a rare neurological condition, her work is shaped by the complexities of this experience. The slow, meditative act of stitching becomes a quiet ritual of anchoring. Repetitive gestures accumulate into form, echoing not only the vibrational patterns of life, but the fragility of personal experience. There is a palpable tension held within these marks – repetition verging on compulsion – as if the act of making is not only meditative, but a way of navigating that which feels fragmented.
The Transcendentalist belief in the divinity of nature and the importance of our connection to it informs much of Poppy’s subject matter. The titles of her works reflect on the importance of the energetic, ritualistic and sometimes spiritualist dimensions to her practice and allude to a pursuit of ascension, self-liberation or perhaps, refuge. Recent works To Be in the Depths of Matter and No Matter, We Are But One look to make tangible life’s vibrations and to capture the delicate yet powerful networks that underpin life itself.
Since transitioning from her previous career as a project manager to museums, curators and artists, Poppy’s work has been shown in several exhibitions, art fairs and auctions including London Art Fair (2025), Tarpey Gallery, Derby (2024), Crypt Gallery, Norwich Cathedral (2023), 99 Projects, London (2022), Home House, London (2022) and Christie’s (2022). She has sold to collectors in the UK, US, Singapore and Middle East and has work in the collection of renowned London wine merchant Berry Bros & Rudd for whom she created a limited-edition artists’ label (2021). Poppy has worked with arts mental health charities Hospital Rooms (2022), A Space Between (2022) and volunteered with ActionSpace (2024) to support artists with disabilities. Her latest series Echoes of the Land will be featured in Stephen Ellcock's forthcoming publication Common People, launching in October 2025.
