Poppy Lennox
Multi Disciplinary Artist
Poppy Lennox explores ideas around connectivity, focusing especially on the importance of our relationship with nature and the ways in which we seek patterns and repetition as a way of understanding our existence.
Working in wood with the layering and revealing of paint and incisive, repetitive, often geometric stitched marks of thread, she looks to the structures within the cosmos and nature’s intricate systems and patterns as a means to make visible the interconnectivity of life.

To Be in the Depths of Matter

Plaster, acrylic, pumice gel and thread on birch plywood
90 x 90 cm
The Transcendentalist belief in the divinity of nature and the importance of our connection to it informs much of Poppy’s subject matter. This artwork forms part of Poppy’s latest series, Energy Lines, and reveals pattern that is reminiscent of both mycelium and cosmic networks. Tethered forms of thread go beyond the woven mark to connect the microcosm and macrocosm and reflect on the energetic and vibrational forces that surround every aspect of existence.
There is a curiosity for Poppy in how different materials engage and interplay with each other. Hundreds of woven threads are bound, rooted and integrated into the wooden surface – a physical process where it’s not just on but through and within.
