Process & Material

In a world that is facing unprecedented peril and unimaginable challenges, the key to its survival is an acknowledgement of the beauty, purpose and patterns discernible in the universe; of the interconnectedness of all things and the need to restore balance.

Material & Method

Poppy rarely works with conventional materials, instead leaning towards those rooted to the earth and to life — natural and found materials such as metal, wood, clay, earth pigment, charcoal, beeswax, pure silk thread, salt. Each carries its own history, its own residue of place.

The process of working with these materials can feel meditative and alchemical. Whether it is the grinding of clay from the Jurassic coast into pigment, or the manipulation of raw silk slivers into forms embedded in wax, something shifts in the handling — an energetic transformation that becomes bound into the very structure of the work.
